Based out of Stillwater, MN, this is the first bookstore/coffee shop I’ve seen that isn’t Starbucks, and that’s what makes this place so unique. Nothing like the smell of new books, mixed in with espresso! On my way in, I was greeted by a friendly employee out of the Valley Bookseller store, and we chatted for a little bit about the store and history of the location.
Atmosphere & Experience
The Daily Grind Espresso Cafe in Stillwater, MN shares its space with a local bookstore, and has an outdoor patio that looks out across the Saint Croix river. Established in 1992, the Daily Grind has been a continuous source of community through the years.
When I was looking into the history behind the shop for this review, I noticed there was a significant community pay-it-forward event that happened during the COVID Pandemic. Community members donated over $10,000 to give out free coffee to newcomers (LINK). What a cool initiative to bring people together!
What I don’t fully understand is their First Responder/Vetreran wall. I asked the Barista on staff what the significance was, but she did not know! I thought it was a nice touch, but I’m still curious if there is a further significant connection to Daily Grind outside of general respect.

Austin’s Choice
By the end of the day’s travels, I had been feeling completely coffee’d out. I enjoyed their last serving of a blackberry iced tea. Was a great way to end the day!
