Impression, Atmosphere & Experience
Out of many coffee shops that I visit, the tiny ones that focus on a smaller menu, tend to grab my attention the most. What really won it for me was the friendliness of the staff, their special mugs, the lighting and the small Star Trek figurine that was sitting atop their espresso machine.

The origin story is that the founders Jessica and Jonathan Pressley began their journey into coffee on a backpacking trip to Peru, where they visited a small coffee farm. After they returned, they decided to pick up roasting as a hobby. That hobby quickly outgrew their home, and that is what turned into Ember & Bean’s business.
From what I can gather, they are very deliberate about their bean sourcing; preferring to have direct trade relationships with farmers in Costa Rica, Colombia, and Honduras. The shop sits in historic downtown Hudson, steps from the St. Croix River, which is great if you want to walk and take in a bit of nature after coffee. The space is warm and has wood everywhere. Every mug and dish used in-house is handmade by a Wisconsin potter.
Austin’s Choice
I enjoyed a classic latte. I really appreciate that they use the larger mouthed ceramic cups. There’s something cozy and warm about that over a paper cup.
